Program Overview

The Economic Development Branch launched the Business First pilot project in late 2012.  The Business First program is based on the recommendations of the Town’s Economic Development Strategy and Business Retention & Expansion Study.

The Business First program understands that business and industry value the importance of timely approvals and certainty around the necessary permits and regulations. Increasingly, the regulatory regime which applies to expanding business and new development can be complicated, time consuming and involve several agencies and Town Departments. The Economic Development Branch strives to create a welcoming and friendly environment for business investment in order to alleviate barriers to economic growth. Working closely with Development Services Department, the Business First program will provide dedicated staff support and attention to assist the business owner or investor to secure necessary approvals, add some degree of certainty to timing and project completion.

The Business First program is designed to support new and existing businesses within the Town. This program will contribute to the Town’s employment population growth and will support the Town’s larger objective to create complete, balanced and sustainable communities.
