East Gwillimbury is located less than one hour north of the City of Toronto and is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).  In the 2011/2012 American Cities of the Future report released by fDI Intelligence, Toronto ranked in the top 10 for its economic potential, infrastructure and quality of life.  Also, Toronto was recently ranked in the top 10 cities globally for innovation in the Innovation Cities Top 100 Index, 2011.  As part of the most densely populated region in Canada, the Town’s population is expected to increase from just over 24,000 people to approximately 86,500 people by 2031.  To insure a mix of both commercial/ industrial land and residential now and in the future the Town has set aside 573 hectares as employment lands.   • Available Land - 232 developable hectares of land
  • Market  Access - Access to the over 6 million residents of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) via two 400 series highways

In 2014, the Highway 404 extension from Green Lane to Ravenshoe Road was completed. Currently, East Gwillimbury is preparing for future development and growth through a number of significant projects targeted at improving the local business environment.  Those projects include:

  • Servicing of strategic economic corridors for future development
  •  A Water/waste water master plan
