South Lake Futures is a Community Futures Development Corporation committed to providing economic development opportunities for small businesses in the Town of East Gwillimbury, the Town of Georgina, the Township of Brock, as well as those reserve lands for Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation.

Business Financing 

South Lake Futures provides business loans up to $300,000 for new and existing businesses and social enterprises. Financing can be used to assist with business expansion, the purchase of new assets, working capital, the purchase of an existing business or to start-up a new business. We do not compete with traditional financial institutions. We work collaboratively with banking institutions to find solutions. As part of our qualification process, applicants are first required to explore traditional financing services. If those services are either insufficient or unavailable, we may be able to offer an alternate lending solution that works for your business.

To apply, applicants must submit a completed and signed Business Loan Application. In addition to the application, you will be required to submit the following information: 
  • A copy of your business plan
  • Cash flow projections
  • For existing businesses, your last 2 years financial statements

Larger Loans

South Lake Futures works in partnership with the Georgina Association for Business (GAB) to deliver larger loans. GAB provides business loans up to $400,000. These loans require the same application process as our regular business loans.  GAB, at its sole discretion, can make loans to businesses in other local rural communities outside of SLCFDC's defined service area.  This may include, but is not limited to, loans to businesses in Scugog, Uxbridge, Whitchurch-Stouffville and King Township. Prospective clients seeking larger loans are advised to speak with the General Manager or Business Loans Officer prior to proceeding with an application.

Business Counselling 

South Lake Futures provides a variety of business advising services and resources to the local business community. Unless otherwise noted, all our counselling and education services are free of charge. We can assist you with the beginning stages of creating a business plan, cash flow projections and assist you with registering your business name. Where appropriate, we also make referrals to other agencies or programs that provide assistance to small businesses. In addition, we also assist clients in their efforts to obtain business financing from other sources.

Business Education

Throughout the year, we deliver business seminars on a variety of business management topics. In addition, we participate in Small Business Week by collaborating with business minded organizations to deliver special events with expert guest speakers for the local business community. One-on-One Counselling

We provide entrepreneurial, commercial, financial, marketing and other business advice and counselling. Existing, or potential local business owners can make an appointment to meet with one of our staff for business advice on a variety of business issues including business start-up, business financing, purchasing or expanding an existing business. Business Planning Facilitation

Clients working on their business plan are welcome to make appointments to meet with one of our staff to have their draft plan reviewed. In addition, if there are aspects of developing the plan that a client is having difficulty with, they may meet with one of our staff for assistance. Community Economic Development

South Lake Futures partners with municipalities, first nations and other community organizations to support projects and special initiatives to implement strategic community projects. Community Economic Development (CED) is a result of a wider community consultation. Projects are designed to enhance our local communities, the overall climate for local business and build the community's overall economic capacity. CED projects may range from the development of key infrastructures, to skills development, to other key community needs such as health care, recreation and general quality of life. The process assists in improving our communities, forging strong local partnerships and developing strong, community minded volunteers.
